Pastoral Counseling

Grace Covenant pastors, Elders, and Deacons are availble for spiritual, personal, pre-marital, marriage, and family counseling. Our pastors are trained and have a wide range of counseling experience. In addition to our staff pastors, Grace Covenant has other ordained ministers as part of our congregation, as well as trained church leaders, who are willing to meet with those who are struggling. To speak with, or to arrange a session with, one of our pastoral counselors contact the church office:

Grace Covenant has entered into a partnership with Genesis Counseling Center to provide well-trained Interns and Residents to offer counseling services at our church.

A Resident is a trained counselor who has completed all degree work and is working on hours required for full licensure. An Intern is a trained counselor in the final stages of completing a Masters degree in Counseling or Psychology. Both the Intern and the Resident work under supervision of an experienced Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Psychologist with training in supervision. And both Intern and Resident have immediate access to supervisory counselors in event of difficult situations.

Counselors: Genesis counselors at GCPC are Residents Isaiah Day - LPC and Blair Elder - LPC. Isaiah is available Mondays from 1-6pm, and by appointment. Blair is available on Mondays from 9am-1pm, and she also has afternoon/evening hours at the Genesis Office. Both Blair and Isaiah are under the supervision of GCPC member Mark Mortier.

Counseling Provided: A female Resident/Intern meets with Girls, Women, Families or Couples. A male Resident/Intern meets with Boys, Men, Families, Couples. Both the Resident and the Intern may offer groups on particular topics.

Appointments: Those interested in services can call the Genesis-Williamsburg office 757-654-3100 to schedule a first appointment at the church. A Resident (or Intern) will meet with clients at the church to find out their concerns and to discuss how to best provide assistance. The Resident (or Intern) will determine if he/she can meet the needs of the client, or if the seriousness of the issues requires a licensed provider and services provided in a Counseling Center setting. The client will be guided through a process to get the services they need in a setting they can afford.

Cost: Clients who have sessions with a Resident can pay on a sliding scale; this scale will be provided to them. Interns cannot accept direct payments. Genesis suggests clients who meet with Interns consider gifts to the church to help support the counseling services. Both the Resident and the Intern pay for weekly supervision or education and are supporting themselves until they can practice professionally.

Summary: Grace Covenant is excited about this opportunity to expand care to our members and to our community. We would encourage anyone who has given thought to counseling, but perhaps has not taken steps to see a counselor, to consider setting an appointment. In most cases you will find that a trained listening ear will help you resolve whatever it is that is causing your stress or anxiousness, perhaps in as little as one or two sessions. Counseling services are open to both Grace Covenant members and to our neighbors throughout the Historic Triangle.
