Internationals

We are privileged to be able to minister to folks from around the world right in our own community. A couple of specific opportunities are …

International Student Ministry

There are 40-50 new MBA students at W&M this year from Southeast Asia, and we have an opportunity to develop on-going relationships which would involve inviting them to dinner, sight-seeing around Williamsburg, and including them in anything that would provide them with an enjoyable and unique “American” experience. Don’t be surprised if they ask you about Christianity! Want to be involved? Please contact Nathan Kiewiet at nkiewiet@hotmail.com.

•Literacy for Life – LFL provides valuable services to help community members function more effectively. They provide individualized, one-on-one and small group tutoring for adults in reading, writing and math skills, as well as instruction in English for speakers of other languages. If you would like to learn more about Literacy for Life and how you can get involved, check out their website at www.literacyforlife.org/volunteers or contact Katie Watson at jkwats@email.wm.edu.

Neighbors in Need

Feed the Hungry

There is a great need for food, worldwide and locally, and we have a couple of opportunities to help meet some of those needs in our community…

  • FISH – The shelves at FISH are empty, and they need your help to fill them! Let’s ‘Push’ to fill the grocery cart in the Commons with items such as bottled water and other beverages; canned meats, vegetables and soups; dry packaged goods, including powered milk; peanut butter, jelly, baby food, and snack items. To learn more about what FISH does, contact Dean and Martha Mitchell at martyluvspoodles@aol.com.
  • Grove Christian Outreach Center – GCOC also distributes food to the hungry in our community. The need is great and they could use your help to meet it! Food or financial donations to the “Food Fund” can be taken or sent to GCOC, 8800 Pocahontas Trail, Williamsburg 23185. To learn more about what GCOC does, contact Roy & Audrey Jester.
  • Find your place to serve, and connect with others while doing it!
